Bongeka is a brave 9-year-old girl living with a congenital condition called liver cirrhosis. Since birth, she has faced countless hospital visits and surgeries. In 2021, doctors at Wits Donald Gordon Hospital evaluated her for a liver transplant, but due to severe lung complications, the operation was considered too risky. Despite a terminal prognosis, Bongeka continues to fight courageously, defying the odds through the grace of God.
Recently, she suffered severe internal bleeding and now requires ongoing surgical procedures every few months to repair her veins. She also depends on an oxygen concentrator daily as her oxygen levels often drop below 60%.
Purpose of the Event:
The Fun Run/Walk aims to raise funds and awareness for Bongeka’s medical care and continuous oxygen therapy. All proceeds will go towards her ongoing treatments and essential home-care needs.
